The European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS) announces the 20th edition of the ECCOMAS Award for the Two Best PhD Theses in 2025 in the field of Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering.
This prestigious award recognizes outstanding scientific achievements by young researchers at the beginning of their careers. Two awardees will be selected.

- €2,000 in prize money
- Coverage of participation costs for the Award Ceremony
Eligibility
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Completion of a PhD thesis approved in 2025.
- The PhD must have been carried out at a university or research organization in Europe.
- The thesis must fall within the ECCOMAS fields of interest in Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering.
Application Procedure
Candidates must submit their application to the President of the local or regional ECCOMAS Association to which their university or research organization is affiliated. Contact details of the Associations are available on the ECCOMAS website.
Required documents:
- Full PhD thesis.
- Curriculum Vitae.
- For theses written in languages other than English: a 2–3 page summary in English.
Submission deadline for applications: February 21, 2026.
Selection Process
First Phase – National/Regional Selection
Each national or regional ECCOMAS Association will select one candidate PhD thesis according to its internal procedure. The selected thesis, together with the candidate’s CV and a one-page support letter, must be sent (in printed form or electronically) to the ECCOMAS Secretariat in Barcelona.
Deadline for reception at the ECCOMAS Secretariat: March 24, 2026 (strict deadline; late submissions will not be considered).
All candidates selected as finalists by the Associations will receive a Diploma issued by ECCOMAS and will be invited to participate in the ECCOMAS PhD Olympiad.
Final Phase – ECCOMAS Committee Selection
The ECCOMAS PhD Award Committee will select two awardees among the finalists.
Announcement of the awardees: April 25, 2026.

The Awards will be presented at the WCCM–ECCOMAS 2026 Congress:
