Open Call: ECCOMAS Young Investigators Committee (EYIC) Grant 2026

The ECCOMAS Young Investigators Committee Grant (EYIC Grant) supports promising young researchers in computational mechanics and applied mathematics. The goal of this competitive funding scheme is to help early-career scientists build independence, strengthen their research direction, and expand their international visibility.

Aims and Scope

  • Provide young researchers with resources to establish research independence.
  • Support innovative and interdisciplinary project proposals in computational mechanics and applied mathematics.
  • Boost international networking, collaborations, and visibility.

The EYIC Grant is intended as a preparatory step toward larger competitive grants.

Number and Frequency of Grants

The EYIC Grant is awarded biennially. Only one project proposal may be funded per call. If no proposal meets the required quality standard, no grant will be awarded.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be members of an ECCOMAS-affiliated local society.
  • Applicants must hold an active position at a university or non-profit research institute.
  • Applicants must have completed their PhD within the last five years (extensions allowed for certified career breaks).
  • The EYIC Grant can only be received once; resubmission is allowed if a previous proposal was not funded.

Funding and Eligible Expenses

Each EYIC Grant supports a 24-month project with a maximum budget of €15,000 . Eligible expenses include:

  • Research stays and collaboration visits
  • Visits by external collaborators
  • Conference and workshop participation
  • Workshop organization
  • Software, lab equipment, materials

Expenses not listed may still be approved if justified in advance to the ECCOMAS Treasurer. Salaries cannot be funded. Unused budget remains with ECCOMAS.

Grant-related items purchased remain the property of the grantee.

Payment Modalities

  • Reimbursement — expenses reimbursed after submission of documentation and approval.
  • Direct payment of invoices — ECCOMAS pays eligible invoices directly after prior approval.

No overhead costs will be covered.
